Overview

DeenUnlock is a Muslim app blocker and worship companion for iOS and Android. It helps users protect selected apps until they complete acts of worship such as prayer, Quran reading, dhikr, dua, or short Islamic learning. Most worship, progress, and protection data stays on the device.

Data We Access

  • Screen Time / Family Controls permission on iOS so the user can choose which apps or categories to protect.
  • Android Accessibility permission on Android so DeenUnlock can detect when the user opens an app they selected for protection and return them to DeenUnlock.
  • Location permission to calculate local Islamic prayer times and Qibla direction, find nearby mosques when requested, resolve place names, and calculate Tahajjud timing.
  • Notifications permission to send prayer reminders and unlock check-ins.

Data Stored On Device

  • onboarding completion state
  • selected unlock mode
  • selected protected app metadata
  • prayer completion history
  • sunnah completion history
  • streak and gamification progress
  • temporary unlock timing
  • location coordinates used for prayer-time calculation
  • notification preference

On Android, the selected protected app list is stored on the device for the app-blocking feature. DeenUnlock does not use Accessibility to read screen text, collect typed content, inspect private messages, capture passwords, read browser history, or control unrelated apps.

Third-Party Services

  • AlAdhan API, to fetch prayer times based on location and date
  • OpenStreetMap Overpass endpoints, to search for nearby mosques only when the user starts that search
  • Apple or Google platform geocoding services, to resolve city names and place labels
  • Quran.com APIs/CDN, to fetch Quran text and audio playback assets
  • Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, to understand app interactions, diagnostics, and crashes using pseudonymous installation identifiers
  • RevenueCat, to manage purchase and subscription entitlement state using pseudonymous identifiers
  • DeenUnlock’s coupon-redemption service, only when the user submits a code; it receives that code and a pseudonymous RevenueCat app-user identifier

Tracking

DeenUnlock does not use third-party ad tracking and does not track users across apps or websites.

Analytics And Crash Reporting

DeenUnlock may use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to collect app interaction events, diagnostics, and crash reports. These signals are used to operate and improve the app. DeenUnlock does not sell this data and does not use it for advertising.

Purchases

Subscriptions and purchases are processed by the platform app store and RevenueCat. DeenUnlock does not collect credit card or bank account information.

Your Choices

  • deny location permission
  • deny notifications permission
  • disable Android Accessibility access in system settings
  • disable prayer reminders in Settings
  • pause protection in Settings
  • remove the app and its local data at any time

Data Retention And Reset

Local on-device data is removed when the user uninstalls the app or uses available reset controls in the app. Anonymous provider records may not be attributable or individually deletable. Support can review what is available without promising deletion of a record that cannot be linked back to a person.
